Why the capital has its own tax line

The City of Sacramento levies a Cannabis Business Operations Tax of 4% of gross receipts, remitted monthly, according to the city's Finance Department. It is smaller than the 10% Los Angeles charges but it is still one more line on the receipt. Unincorporated Sacramento County does not allow storefront sales, so an address outside city limits with a storefront claim deserves a second look.

The excise rate is the one that moved recently: it rose to 19% in July 2025 and dropped back to 15% on October 1, 2025 after AB 564.

Which Sacramento stores have full profiles?

Only two so far. A Therapeutic Alternative started as a medical collective and still runs patient-focused services, and Humble Root is a newer adult-use store. The remaining 35 appear in the listing below with license data, and we add profiles as reviews come in.

Most licensed storefronts sit along a few commercial corridors rather than downtown. Expect stores near Florin Road, Fruitridge Road, Power Inn Road and the Del Paso Boulevard area, with a smaller number close to Midtown. Hours follow the state window of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., though many close earlier. Parking is usually easy compared with the Bay Area, and several stores run online preorder for counter pickup, which shortens the wait at lunch and after work. Legislative staff and visitors downtown will find that very few stores are within walking distance of the Capitol, so plan a short drive or rideshare.

Is it safe to buy from a delivery ad in Sacramento?

Only if the ad shows a state license number you can verify. The region sees plenty of unlicensed delivery services that operate through social media and text lines. A legal driver checks ID at the door, gives a receipt with the license number, and will not meet you in a parking lot. Check the Red List for names we have flagged and run a quick self-check with the cannabis use check tool if you are new to buying. Statewide rules are on the California hub.

Cannabis in Sacramento: questions

No. State law bans consumption in public places, and the Capitol grounds, parks and sidewalks all count. Use it on private property where the owner allows it.
