Legal cannabis cannot cross a provincial line. Each legal seller delivers only inside its own province, and British Columbia's government says its licensed stores may send non-medical cannabis only to customers inside B.C. So an online order is always a provincial one too. Adults have been able to buy since October 17, 2018; the minimum age is 18 in Alberta, 21 in Quebec and 19 elsewhere.

Verdex lists about 3,500 stores in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador, from the Calgary shop Bud Bar Crowfoot, open to midnight on weekends, to Jupiter Cannabis on Academy Road in Winnipeg. Visitors of legal age may buy, but taking cannabis across the border is illegal.

Six markets, one federal rulebook

The federal Cannabis Act caps public possession at 30 g and edibles at 10 mg of THC per package. Everything else is provincial, so the check you run depends on where the shop stands.

Store lists move quickly. Ontario ended 2025 with 1,780 authorized stores after onboarding 257 and offboarding 134 during the year, according to the Ontario Cannabis Store, so confirm a shop is still on the register before you drive across town. Alberta had about 734 licensed retailers in February 2026 (AGLC) and B.C. 536 licensed locations in March 2025.

Price varies more with pack size than with the store: Ontario's wholesale flower averaged $3.75 a gram in 2025, from about $2.89 for the biggest packs to $5.04 for the smallest. Where you can compare delivery, look at the zone: Kindling at 35 Pine St advertises free one-hour delivery across most Hamilton postcodes. Questions about this list

Can I order legal cannabis from another province?

No. Deliveries stop at the provincial line: British Columbia's government (page updated May 20, 2026) says its licensed stores may ship non-medical cannabis only to customers in B.C. A website that offers coast-to-coast delivery is a red flag for an illegal seller.

What is the legal age to buy cannabis in Canada?

It is 19 in most provinces, 18 in Alberta and 21 in Quebec. The federal minimum is 18, and provinces may raise it but not lower it, according to Health Canada's overview of provincial rules.

Can I take Canadian cannabis across the border?

No. Carrying cannabis into or out of Canada is an offence under the Cannabis Act, punishable by up to 14 years in prison. That holds even if you bought it legally and are heading somewhere cannabis is legal.

Buying in Canada

  • Minimum age

18 in Alberta, 21 in Quebec, 19 in all other provinces and territories.

  • Possession

    30 g of dried cannabis or equivalent in public (1 g dried = 5 g fresh, 15 g edible solids, 70 g non-solid products, 570 g beverages, 0.25 g concentrates or 1 seed). Some provinces cap home storage, e.g. 150 g per residence in Quebec and 1,000 g per household in B.C.

  • Home grow

Up to 4 plants per residence under federal law. Prohibited in Quebec. Manitoba passed Bill 34 in June 2024 and home growing became legal there on May 1, 2025 (19+, up to 4 plants per household, grown indoors; gov.mb.ca).

  • Public use

Set provincially: generally allowed where tobacco smoking is in Ontario and B.C. (with exceptions); smoking and vaping banned in all public spaces in Quebec; no public consumption in New Brunswick; private dwellings only in PEI; restricted in Alberta and Nova Scotia; not in vehicles.
