Eight years ago Toronto had no legal cannabis store at all. Today, walking the Danforth from Broadview to Pape or along Queen West, you pass several, Toronto Mike wrote in August 2026. Verdex lists 131 AGCO-authorized stores in this part of the city, and the adults who may buy there are 19 and older.

Five carry ratings. Nomade Cannabis on Dundas Street West in Little Portugal leads at 9.4, ahead of Cosmic Charlies on Queen Street West (9.1), Relm Cannabis on Gerrard Street East in Riverdale (9.0) and Wonderland Cannabis on Queen Street East at Coxwell (9.0).

Queen Street, the Danforth and the city's own limits

The main strips are Queen Street West and East, Dundas West, Gerrard East, Bathurst and Yonge, where Minerva Cannabis (8.9) is a family-owned boutique on Bathurst Street. Blunt and Cherry is on Spadina, and Buzzed Buds on Yonge Street. The scores are Verdex ratings; unrated shops are still authorized by the AGCO.

  • What the city can and cannot do: Toronto says stores must be at least 150 metres from schools and that no minimum distance applies between cannabis retailers. Complaints about a licensed store go to the AGCO, not city hall.
  • Council sentiment: in a city survey of what residents wanted on their street, cannabis retail ranked among the least popular, StratCann reported in November 2025, when a council motion asked the province about per-ward limits.
  • Neighbouring lists: Toronto's eastern district is on our Scarborough page and the west-central area is on York.

Prices vary between blocks even though the Ontario Cannabis Store supplies every shop. The first-visit guide covers ID, payment and what to ask, and the Ontario page covers delivery rules and store counts across the province.

Questions about this list

How many cannabis stores does Toronto have?

Verdex lists 131 AGCO-authorized stores under Toronto, and more under Scarborough and other districts. Other counts run higher because they include the whole city; the AGCO map is the definitive list.

Can Toronto stop new cannabis stores opening in my neighbourhood?

Not at present. The city can only say where it would like stores, and store approvals stay with the AGCO, which requires 150 metres from schools. Council asked the province in November 2025 about limits per ward.

Buying in Canada

  • Minimum age

18 in Alberta, 21 in Quebec, 19 in all other provinces and territories.

  • Possession

    30 g of dried cannabis or equivalent in public (1 g dried = 5 g fresh, 15 g edible solids, 70 g non-solid products, 570 g beverages, 0.25 g concentrates or 1 seed). Some provinces cap home storage, e.g. 150 g per residence in Quebec and 1,000 g per household in B.C.

  • Home grow

Up to 4 plants per residence under federal law. Prohibited in Quebec. Manitoba passed Bill 34 in June 2024 and home growing became legal there on May 1, 2025 (19+, up to 4 plants per household, grown indoors; gov.mb.ca).

  • Public use

Set provincially: generally allowed where tobacco smoking is in Ontario and B.C. (with exceptions); smoking and vaping banned in all public spaces in Quebec; no public consumption in New Brunswick; private dwellings only in PEI; restricted in Alberta and Nova Scotia; not in vehicles.
