Several Montreal branches are named after metro stations: SQDC Métro Jarry on rue Lajeunesse, Métro Acadie on avenue Beaumont, and Fleury-Papineau on rue Fleury Est. All are run by the Société québécoise du cannabis, the only business allowed to sell cannabis at retail in Quebec.
Verdex lists 23 branches on the island of Montreal. You must be 21 to enter; someone aged 19 or 20 who could legally buy in Ottawa is refused at the door. With one operator there is no licence to compare between shops; the questions are which branch is nearest and what it has on the shelf.

The list spreads over the island's boroughs rather than clustering downtown. In the east are Anjou on the Métropolitain and Fleury-Papineau; in the north, Marché Central on boulevard de l'Acadie and Métro Jarry; in the west, Pierrefonds on boulevard de Pierrefonds and LaSalle on boulevard Newman. Downtown, the Crescent branch is at 1414 rue Crescent.
- Hours: the SQDC extended opening to 10 p.m. Thursday to Saturday at 20 busy branches in 2025, according to Radio-Canada; each branch page on sqdc.ca shows its own hours.
- No private shops: a business selling cannabis over a counter in Montreal that is not an SQDC branch is not licensed by Quebec.
- Mohawk territory: Kahnawà:ke, on the south shore, has cannabis shops outside the SQDC system, operating under community rules. Verdex does not list them.
The Quebec rules explainer covers possession limits and product limits, and the Quebec page lists branches province-wide.
Questions about this list
Can I buy cannabis at a private shop in Montreal?
No. The SQDC is the only legal retailer in Quebec, through its branches and website. Any other shop selling cannabis over the counter is not licensed by the province.
What is the minimum age to buy cannabis in Montreal?
21. Quebec raised the age from 18 on January 1, 2020, so it is higher than Ontario's 19, and staff check ID at the SQDC entrance.
Buying in Canada
Minimum age
18 in Alberta, 21 in Quebec, 19 in all other provinces and territories.
Possession
30 g of dried cannabis or equivalent in public (1 g dried = 5 g fresh, 15 g edible solids, 70 g non-solid products, 570 g beverages, 0.25 g concentrates or 1 seed). Some provinces cap home storage, e.g. 150 g per residence in Quebec and 1,000 g per household in B.C.
Home grow
Up to 4 plants per residence under federal law. Prohibited in Quebec. Manitoba passed Bill 34 in June 2024 and home growing became legal there on May 1, 2025 (19+, up to 4 plants per household, grown indoors; gov.mb.ca).
Public use
Set provincially: generally allowed where tobacco smoking is in Ontario and B.C. (with exceptions); smoking and vaping banned in all public spaces in Quebec; no public consumption in New Brunswick; private dwellings only in PEI; restricted in Alberta and Nova Scotia; not in vehicles.
