Every cannabis store in Nanaimo needed its own rezoning. The city treats cannabis retail as a site-specific use, and it will not even accept an application until the B.C. Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) confirms it has received one, according to the City of Nanaimo. Verdex lists 14 licensed stores, all register entries without ratings yet.

Buyers must be 19, and one purchase is capped at 30 grams. Addresses span the city: Criss Cannabis on Chapel Street downtown, Flight Cannabis Co. on Bruce Avenue, Coast Salish Canna on Stewart Avenue, and Cannabis Supply Co. on Turner Road in the north.

How a store ends up on this list

The sequence matters to buyers because it explains the gaps. An operator applies to the LCRB, the city then accepts a rezoning application, and the business licence follows only after rezoning and any building permit are complete. Nanaimo's rezoning criteria, as reported locally, ask for about 300 metres between the front doors of stores and 150 metres from schools and licensed daycares; the Cannabis Retail Store Rezoning Criteria document on nanaimo.ca has the current numbers.

  • Near downtown: Chapel Street and Bruce Avenue.
  • Central streets: Inspired Cannabis Co on Tenth Street, Mood Cannabis Co on Victoria Avenue, Coast Salish Canna on Stewart Avenue and Island Cannabis Company on Bowen Road.
  • North and south: Turner Road in the north end and Cedar Road (Jerry's Cannabis Co.) toward the south.

Stock in every store is bought from the provincial wholesaler, so the useful comparisons are hours, staff advice and whether a store delivers. Licensed delivery must stay within B.C. The licence-check guide covers the decal and stamp checks; the British Columbia hub covers the province's model.
