In 2018 Medicine Hat's planners proposed an overlay map instead of letting stores open across whole zones, naming downtown, South Railway Street, Dunmore Road and the Trans-Canada Way corridor, according to the Medicine Hat News. The addresses on Verdex's list of 11 AGLC-licensed stores still fall on those streets: 646 South Railway St SE, 543 3 St SE, 117-3215 Dunmore Rd SE and 1-1335 Trans Canada Way SE.

Alberta allows purchases from age 18, up to 30 grams a time. These are register entries without scores, so each page gives the AGLC licence number rather than a rating. Names include Hat Cannabis Inc., The Leaf and Lefties.

How to choose among eleven stores

A city this size is a two-corridor market. One group sits downtown and along South Railway Street SE, where Giving & Receiving Ltd. and Hat Cannabis are a few blocks apart. The other runs along Dunmore Road, Trans-Canada Way and Strachan Road on the east and south edges, where Spiritleaf, Canna Cabana's Dunmore branch and Value Buds at Strachan Corner are on the outer roads.

  • Chains and independents: two Canna Cabana licences and a Spiritleaf branch sit beside locally named shops such as Lefties and Value Buds at Strachan Corner.
  • Zoning: the city's Land Use Bylaw, amended in December 2024, lists cannabis retail store among its permitted uses.
  • Delivery: Alberta retailers may deliver using their own staff or a common carrier; ask each store whether it serves your neighbourhood.

Every licensed store buys through AGLC, so differences are opening hours, staff advice and loyalty terms. The licence-check guide shows how to verify a store, and see the Alberta hub for the province's rules.
