Denver opened Colorado's first adult-use stores in 2014, and more than a decade later it is the densest market in the state, with 173 licensed sellers in our list, almost all storefronts, plus one delivery operator and one licensed social club.

What changed recently?

Colorado House Bill 25-1209, signed in June 2025, doubled the retail transaction limit from 1 ounce to 2 ounces, matching what adults could already possess. The daily cap on concentrates stayed at 8 grams.

What tax shows up on a Denver receipt?

Three layers, according to the City and County of Denver and the Colorado Department of Revenue. Retail cannabis is exempt from Colorado's 2.9% state sales tax, but local sales tax still applies.

Where Denver's stores cluster

Stores concentrate along industrial and commercial corridors rather than downtown: South Broadway, Colfax Avenue, the Colorado Boulevard corridor and the north-side industrial areas. Chains are everywhere. Native Roots on Colorado Blvd and Lova on Colfax sit on those corridors, while LivWell runs several Denver licenses. Independents such as Strawberry Fields and House of Dankness are worth comparing on price and lab data.

Can I consume anywhere legally?

Only on private property or at a licensed hospitality business. Denver's hospitality program has licensed very few venues, and the city has cracked down on unlicensed "smoke-friendly" events. Public use, including in parks and on 16th Street, is banned, and Denver International Airport bans possession on its property. See the Colorado hub for statewide rules.

Delivery and pickup

Denver licenses cannabis delivery, but few stores run it, so online ordering for in-store pickup is the common route. Delivery goes to a private residence, the recipient must show ID, and orders count toward the same 2-ounce transaction limit. Check the delivery line on a seller's Verdex profile, and use our first-visit guide for ID and payment basics; many Denver stores are cash or debit only.

Cannabis in Denver: questions

How much weed can I buy in Denver?

Since House Bill 25-1209 took effect in 2025, retail stores may sell an adult up to 2 ounces of flower, or the equivalent, per transaction. Concentrate purchases remain capped at 8 grams per day.

What is the marijuana tax in Denver?

Adult-use purchases carry Colorado's 15% retail marijuana tax, Denver's 5.5% special marijuana tax and Denver's 5.15% sales tax, plus regional district taxes. Retail cannabis does not pay the 2.9% state sales tax.

Is there cannabis delivery in Denver?

Yes. Denver licenses cannabis delivery, though only a small share of stores offer it. Deliveries go to the buyer in person with ID, not to hotels or campuses.

Where can tourists smoke in Denver?

Only on private property with the owner's permission or at a licensed hospitality venue. Most hotels ban smoking, public use is illegal, and cannabis is banned on Denver International Airport property.
