Why Belleview and not Elk Avenue?

The council passed the ordinance 6-1 on 18 September 2013, with John Wirsing the lone no. It kept shops off Elk Avenue, the main street, and allowed them in the commercial zone and along Sixth Street's B-2 strip. Any expansion of an existing shop needs a conditional use permit from the town's design board. Today Backcountry (329 Belleview), Sun House (309), Rocky Mountain Cannabis (322), Do (310 North) and The Dispensary (423) fill the cap exactly.

What did Gunnison's open door change?

When Gunnison voted in July 2015 to allow shops with no cap, Crested Butte operators expected customers to drain south. One planned a satellite on Highway 50 to catch the drive-by trade. The 2016 report also counted amnesty boxes at the airport for tourists, part of a local "Pass the Knowledge" campaign. Colorado's statewide limits are covered in the state buying guide.

Cannabis in Crested Butte: questions

Can a sixth store open in Crested Butte?

Not under the 2013 ordinance, which allows five retail permits town-wide. Changing that would need council action, and this page found no proposal.

Are the stores open late?

The 2013 ordinance set hours of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Confirm the current hours with each store, since the town may have changed them since.
