For a decade Colorado Springs was the large Colorado city where you needed a medical card. That ended in 2025, and the change is still recent enough that many travel guides and map apps show the old rule.

  1. Voters pass Question 300 allowing retail sales; the charter ban (2D) fails.

  2. A district judge blocks the City Council's April 2025 repeal question under Amendment 64.

  3. First adult-use sales at 22 stores.

  4. About 62 retail licenses issued in the first year, per the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Can tourists buy recreational cannabis in Colorado Springs?

Yes. Since April 15, 2025, adults 21+ with valid ID can buy at stores holding a city retail license. Question 300 let only medical centers already licensed in the city convert or add retail licenses, so the store count did not jump; the existing medical shops simply began serving adult-use customers. Not every shop in our list sells to adult-use buyers, so check the store's own menu for a "rec" option before you drive over.

The city says revenue from the 5% tax goes to public safety, mental health and veterans' PTSD programs; local reports put 2025 collections at about $3.8 million.

How Verdex covers the city

Our list of 90 stores comes from the state license register. We have not yet written a full profile for any Colorado Springs seller, so we do not rank them. Before buying, confirm the store's license on the state lookup and read our first-visit guide. Anyone selling from social media, a car or a "gifting" setup is outside the licensed system; our Red List tracks sellers we have flagged. Statewide rules are on the Colorado hub.

Could it change again?

Possibly. Colorado's Amendment 64 allows a local ban only through a general election in an even-numbered year, so any repeal would have to go to city voters in November. Military bases around the city, including Fort Carson and the Air Force Academy, remain federal ground where cannabis is banned.

Cannabis in Colorado Springs: questions

Is recreational weed legal in Colorado Springs now?

Yes. Voters approved Question 300 in November 2024, a court blocked the City Council's attempt to put a repeal on the April 2025 ballot, and adult-use sales began on April 15, 2025.

Do I still need a medical card in Colorado Springs?

Not for stores holding a retail license; adults 21+ with ID can buy there. A medical card still matters if you are 18 to 20, or to avoid the 15% state and 5% city special taxes.

How many recreational dispensaries are in Colorado Springs?

About 62 retail licenses had been issued by April 2026, according to local reporting. Verdex lists 90 licensed stores from the state register, which includes medical-only licenses.

Can I use cannabis at Fort Carson or the Air Force Academy?

No. Military installations are federal property, where cannabis remains illegal regardless of Colorado law. Service members also face federal and military rules.
