How it works

How cannabis is sold in Fort Collins

New licence route
Transfer from an existing medical store only
City marijuana excise tax
None beyond ordinary sales tax (city page)
School and college buffer
1,000 ft
Other spacing
500 ft from child care, worship, parks; 1,000 ft between stores

Why the map favours College Avenue

With a cap and long spacing rules, stores cluster on the arterial: Green Dragon at 804 South College and LivWell at 900 North College, then Kind Care (6617) and Natural Alternatives For Health (6712) at the south end. Off the spine, Aces Place is on Academy Court, Flower Power Botanicals on Duff Drive and the other Green Dragon on Smithfield Drive. A duplicate Kind Care listing covers the same building and looks like the medical licence, since its number lacks the R that marks retail.

Cannabis and campus

The 1,000-foot buffer covers any college or university as well as schools and public playgrounds, so no store stands beside the Colorado State University campus. The city's licence page says you cannot simply apply for a new retail licence. The Colorado buying guide covers ID and limits, and the Colorado hub covers the state.
