How it works

How cannabis is sold in Aurora

Colorado Harvest Company opened an Aurora recreational store on September 16, 2015, and the city has been adding rules ever since.

  1. Council adopts Ordinance 2014-14 and allows retail marijuana establishments.

  2. Colorado Harvest Company opens on East Yale Avenue.

  3. Council passes the marijuana delivery ordinance on second reading, 7-3; Westword called Aurora the first Colorado city to approve recreational delivery.

  4. The city begins issuing delivery permits.

Geography of a large city

The awards were scored: 58 applications competed for 24 licences, with points for location, experience, cash on hand, security and air filtration, according to Cannabis Business Times. The four-per-ward rule spreads shops across the city instead of stacking them on one strip. The north edge has Fired Cannabis on East Colfax Avenue and Best Buds on East 33rd Avenue. In the south-east, Jars is on South Buckley Road with a second Jars on South Gun Club Road. Green Dragon is at 19151 East Quincy Avenue and another on East 6th Avenue, and LivWell is on North Peoria Street.

The distances are large enough that the nearest store, not the best one, often decides. The numbers ending some Verdex slugs (402R-) are state retail licence numbers, and the Marijuana Enforcement Division's monthly list will confirm any of them. Statewide limits are in the Colorado buying guide.
