How it works

How cannabis is sold in Commerce City

Cap rule
no new licence until an area has fewer than four stores
Area 1
7 stores operating, none available
Area 2
2 operating, 1 application pending, 1 licence open
Ban lifted
ordinance approved 1 June 2015, effective 2 June

What does the cap actually count?

According to the city, a store holding both medical and recreational licences counts once, and the limit does not touch cultivations or product makers. The rule blocks new licences instead of closing existing ones, so Area 1 keeps its seven. A slot would reopen only if the area fell below four. The page carries no date, so ask the clerk's office before relying on availability.

Quebec Street is the trap for new arrivals

Three of the eight listed stores share one street: Silver Stem at 5275 Quebec, Cookies at 5385 and 5403 Quebec St LLC. Canna City sits on Highway 85 and Social Cannabis on East 104th Avenue. Nothing published lets Verdex say which of the eight are in Area 2. The licence-check guide shows how to confirm one.

Cannabis in Commerce City: questions

Can a new store open in Commerce City?

Not in Area 1 according to the city's licensing page. Area 2 showed one open licence with a pending application, and every applicant must file a letter of intent first.

Is Commerce City close enough to Denver to matter?

Buyers cross the boundary freely, but each city licenses its own stores, so a Commerce City shop cannot sell to you under a Denver licence or the other way round.
