How it works

How cannabis is sold in Pueblo West

Pueblo County let its first recreational shops open on January 1, 2014, and Pueblo West, a metropolitan district with no municipal government of its own, has depended on the county board ever since.

  1. Colorado voters pass Amendment 64.

  2. Pueblo County commissioners take the last step toward recreational licensing, according to KRDO. The county starts with a cap of 10 shops, reserved for existing medical dispensaries, per The Gazette.

  3. First retail sales. Marisol Therapeutics in Pueblo West is reported among the stores selling from day one.

  4. A Pueblo vote keeps recreational sales in place, The Gazette reported.

Streets, not neighbourhoods

The register groups the shops on three industrial-style roads. Precision Drive has Cannasseur at 41 North and Rocky Mountain Blaze at 78 North. Silicon Drive has Terps at 38 North and The Buzz at 67 North. McCulloch Boulevard, the road that runs through the district, carries Star Buds at 428 South and Smoke Signals at 74 North.

Two listings use the corporate name from the licence file: AF Inc on East Hailey Lane and Denco on East Kimble Drive. Look up the trade name before driving out, because the sign may say something else. The 2014 cap was 10 and the register now shows 13; we cannot tell from it whether the county lifted the limit or the count includes stores that sit on the edge of the district. Statewide limits and the tax stack are on the Colorado hub.

Who licenses a store in Pueblo West?

The Pueblo County Liquor and Marijuana Licensing Board, because the district is unincorporated. A city council vote in Pueblo does not apply here.

Is Pueblo West on Highway 50?

It lies west of the city of Pueblo along US 50. County excise and sales taxes can add to the state rate, so the receipt is the number to trust.
