  • Minimum age

18 in Alberta, 21 in Quebec, 19 in all other provinces and territories.

  • Possession

    30 g of dried cannabis or equivalent in public (1 g dried = 5 g fresh, 15 g edible solids, 70 g non-solid products, 570 g beverages, 0.25 g concentrates or 1 seed). Some provinces cap home storage, e.g. 150 g per residence in Quebec and 1,000 g per household in B.C.

How it works

How cannabis is sold in Sudbury

On December 11, 2018, Greater Sudbury council passed Resolution CC2018-298 and, according to the CBC, voted unanimously to allow private cannabis stores.

  1. Council votes unanimously to opt in (Resolution CC2018-298).

  2. Two stores open in northern Ontario, both of them in Sudbury, according to SooToday.

  3. CBC counts nine licences, one for every 10,233 people, the thinnest coverage of the four big northern cities.

  4. Verdex lists 15 AGCO-authorized stores, so the gap has narrowed.

Three areas, one car

Downtown has Budssmoke at 52 Elm St and Casa Bliss at 324. The south end centres on Long Lake Road with Canna Cabana (2019) and Fika Local Cannabis (2408). Lasalle Boulevard holds Grassroots Co at 1113 and Highlife Cannabis Lasalle at 1855; a second Grassroots is at 20 Second Ave N, and Happy Life is on the Kingsway.

In a city where winter driving is a real cost, delivery from the store's own staff is worth a call, because zones are set store by store. For licensing basics, see Ontario.
