How it works

How cannabis is sold in Cambridge

Someone driving Highway 401 through Cambridge, or crossing over from Kitchener, will find three retail centres rather than one, because the city was formed from Galt, Preston and Hespeler.

  1. Pick the old town.
Galt has Caribbean Oxygen on Main Street and Cannabis Cupboard on Beverly Street. Preston has Canna Havana on King Street E.
  2. Or take Hespeler Road.
It runs through the middle: Canna Cabana at 1 and One Plant at 350.
  3. Franklin Boulevard for two.
Discounted Cannabis and Friendly Stranger share the road; Ronin Cannabis is on Jamieson Parkway.
  4. Match the licence.
Verdex lists 22 AGCO-authorized stores. The OCS versus private store guide shows what price differences to expect.

The regional picture

The first legal store in Waterloo Region opened in Cambridge, in a Tokyo Smoke at Pinebush Road and Hespeler Road, according to CBC. Cambridge council voted on January 15, 2019 to allow stores, alongside Woolwich, and every municipality in the region opted in. In 2021 CBC counted 37 open or pending stores in Kitchener, 22 in Waterloo and 17 in Cambridge.

All three apply the same provincial buffers, including 150 metres from schools. Every authorized store must sell OCS-sourced product in federally required packaging, and the provincial rulebook is one click away at Ontario.
