How cannabis is sold in Midland

Midland is in, and has been since council voted in January 2019.

Did Midland allow stores from the start?

Global News reported that council voted to allow private stores that month, ahead of the 22 January deadline. Next door, Penetanguishene opted in from the beginning after a public survey: 460 respondents, 70 percent in favour, according to Midland Today. Midland's 2021 census count is 17,817, and Verdex lists six licensed stores for it.

Where are the six stores?

Two share King Street: Toke at 262 and True North Cannabis Co. at 212. Buds 4 Less is at 727 William St Unit 5 and Friendly Stranger at 542 Bay St. Two sit on the outskirts: One Plant Cannabis Superstore on Highway 12 and Speakeasy Cannabis on County Road 93.

Do the shops open earlier than they used to?

Yes. Since 1 May 2026 the AGCO lets Ontario cannabis retailers open from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., where the old window started at 9:00. A store may still keep shorter hours, so check the door or the listing.

How do I pick among six stores with no scores?

Nothing has been scored. Compare the exact address and unit number against the AGCO register, and see how the private stores differ from the government site in the Ontario Cannabis Store comparison.
