Oshawa's store map is compact. Most of the city's authorized shops sit on two roads that cross at the Four Corners downtown, so comparing prices on foot is realistic here in a way it isn't in more spread-out cities.

Simcoe Street and King Street: the two store corridors
| Corridor | Authorized stores (AGCO, Sept 2026) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Simcoe St (N and S) | 7 | North–south through downtown toward Ontario Tech and Durham College to the north |
| King St (E and W) | 6 | East–west main street through downtown |
| Ritson Rd | 3 | East of downtown |
| Other roads | 13 | Single stores spread across plazas such as Rossland, Wilson and Laval |
The remaining stores are single locations spread across Oshawa's neighbourhoods. Counts are street-based and will shift as licences change hands.
How the 2019 vote shaped Oshawa's market
After a long meeting in January 2019, council voted 7–4 in favour of private retail rather than opting out, which would have left residents with only the online store. Because the city opted in, the Verdex count reflects the register directly; nothing is hidden by a local ban. Municipalities in Ontario can't cap store numbers or set their own zoning for cannabis retail beyond the province's rules, which is why stores ended up concentrated on commercial main streets. For the provincial framework, see Ontario cannabis rules and ratings.
Buying for the first time in Oshawa
Expect an ID check at the door, even if you look well over 19; a driver's licence or passport works. Authorized stores sell only excise-stamped products sourced through the OCS and must post their AGCO authorization. Staff can explain THC and CBD numbers but can't give medical advice. Our guide on what to bring and ask on a first dispensary visit covers payment and questions worth asking. If a site or shop looks off, check the Verdex Red List.
Where you can use it
Provincial law lets adults smoke cannabis in many of the places tobacco smoking is allowed, such as a private residence or some outdoor public spaces, but not in enclosed public places, workplaces, vehicles, on patios, or near schools and playgrounds. Oshawa's parks and landlords may set tighter rules. Commuting on the GO train with cannabis is fine only if it's within the 30 g limit and not consumed. The cannabis use check is a quick self-check if you're weighing your use.
Cannabis in Oshawa: questions
How many cannabis stores does Oshawa have?
Verdex lists 31 licensed cannabis stores in Oshawa, taken from the AGCO register. Simcoe Street and King Street have the largest concentration.
Did Oshawa opt out of cannabis retail?
No. Oshawa city council voted 7–4 in January 2019 to allow private cannabis stores once the province began licensing them.
Can Oshawa limit where cannabis stores open?
Only indirectly. Ontario sets the siting rules, such as the 150-metre buffer from schools, and the AGCO decides applications; the city can comment during the public notice period.
Can I order cannabis online in Oshawa?
Yes, from the Ontario Cannabis Store at ocs.ca, the only legal online retailer in Ontario. Some local stores offer order-ahead pickup.
What ID do Oshawa dispensaries accept?
Valid government-issued photo ID showing you are 19 or older, such as an Ontario driver's licence, photo card or passport.
