How it works

How cannabis is sold in Corvallis

Corvallis voters passed Measure 2-96 on November 8, 2016, adding the 3 percent maximum local tax to the state's, and the city's finance director estimated it would raise about $95,000 a year.

Downtown and the campus edge

The core sits within a few blocks: Beatnick's Finest on SW Avery, Beaver Bowls on SW 6th, Bloominati Cannabis Corp on SW Washington and Cookies on SW Madison. Green Room (campus) is at 111 NW 16th, near Oregon State, and its siblings are on NW 9th and SE 3rd. High Quality is out on Twin Oaks Circle. The register lists three Green Room doors, at 2521 NW 9th, 111 NW 16th and 1665 SE 3rd, so the brand alone does not tell you which shop you are reading about. Corvallis has about 59,900 residents (2020 census), so 16 entries works out to one per 3,700 people.

No cap, and a spacing limit

I found no store cap. State law stops a city from requiring more than 1,000 feet between two retailers, according to the League of Oregon Cities handbook, so the school buffer is the binding local rule.See the Oregon overview for who may buy, how much and at what tax.

Cannabis in Corvallis: questions

Is there a cap on cannabis shops in Corvallis?

I found none. Corvallis limits location, with a 1,000-foot buffer from schools and no shops in residential zones, and state law limits how far apart the city can require retailers to be.

Does Corvallis charge a local cannabis tax?

Yes. Measure 2-96, approved in November 2016, imposes the 3 percent maximum on retail sales inside the city.
