How it works

How cannabis is sold in Coos Bay

What does Coos Bay charge on top of the state tax?

Three percent, under chapter 3.60 of the city code, enacted in 2016. The 2014 council had set a starting rate of 10 percent for recreational sales, with room to go to 25, before the state fixed local taxes at 3 percent.

Did the city ever stop new shops?

Yes. In November 2020 the council put a moratorium on new dispensary business licences to give staff time to review the ordinance, according to The World. It came after an earlier year-long hold on medical dispensaries in 2014.

What did the 2021 rewrite propose?

To drop two old rules: that dispensaries sit only in industrial or commercial zones, and that they keep 1,000 feet from homes and from other marijuana businesses. The World reported the draft in October 2021. Verify which version was adopted before relying on a site.

Are the two Herbal Choices one shop?

No. Herbal Choices at 965 South 1st Street and Herbal Choices at 63247 Troller Road are separate licences. The register's other four: Bahama Buds on North Bayshore Drive, Hash It Out on South Broadway, King Kannabis on Newmark Avenue and Pioneer Cannabis Co. on Highway 101.
