How cannabis is sold in Amsterdam

Two governments here share the name Amsterdam, and only one of them froze cannabis applications in September 2024.

Find out which Amsterdam. The city's Common Council unanimously passed a three-month moratorium on new dispensary, lounge and smoke shop applications in September 2024 and extended it to 3 March 2025, the Daily Gazette reported. The Town of Amsterdam ran its own zoning hearing.
Read the address. Higher Grounds at 2 Ann St and Sanctuary Gardens at 161 Church St read as downtown. State Highway 5S, County Highway 107 and Sam Stratton Road do not, so check the boundary.
Match the company to the door. Every listing is a company name, such as Goldfinch Flora LLC or Windmill Botanicals LLC, and none has a score in Verdex.
Rule out a smoke shop. A storefront is not a licence; the state's verification tool answers it by address.

Why did the city stop the clock?

Officials said they had hoped for more say over where shops open and found the state's licensing gave them less. A committee formed in autumn 2024 to look at oversaturation, and the zoning update it produced folded the state buffer rules into city code. The Daily Gazette wrote up each step.
