How cannabis is sold in Amherst

A visitor staying near Main Street in Williamsville is inside the Town of Amherst and inside the one part of it where shops are banned.

  1. Pick the corridor.
Transit Road has Herbalwai at 6970 and Amped Dispensary at 8520. Niagara Falls Boulevard has Buffalo Rush at 2521 and Weed King at 2121.
  2. Look east for the rest.
Leaf Plug is on Sheridan Drive at 3341, Spinello on Millersport Highway at 2353 and Tree Head Culture on North French Road at 665.
  3. Skip the village.
Williamsville's trustees voted on 25 October 2021 to opt out of retail dispensaries, so no shop can open there.
  4. Read the names as companies.
Most listings are company names, so match the street number and unit rather than the sign you remember.

What did the town itself decide?

Supervisor Brian Kulpa said in 2021 that Amherst would take no action, which under the law means staying in. The town holds the North Campus of the University at Buffalo, and its seven listed stores sit on arterial roads instead of a downtown. None of the seven is scored yet in Verdex, which holds just licence and address. A municipality that opted out can opt in later, but one that is in cannot opt out, so Williamsville can change its mind and Amherst cannot. Anything not local is set out on New York's page.

Cannabis in Amherst: questions

Can I buy cannabis in Williamsville?

Not in the village. Its Board of Trustees opted out on 25 October 2021, though stores in the surrounding Town of Amherst are open to adults 21 and over.

Does Amherst have a lounge?

Verdex lists none among the seven entries. The town did not opt out, but a lounge needs its own state licence.
