Aurora once capped retail marijuana at four stores per council ward, 24 in all, and every slot was awarded, according to city code as reported in 2018. Verdex lists 21 stores today, each with a state MED licence number starting 402R, such as Best Buds (402R-00334).

In May 2020 the council voted 6-4 to raise the city's retail marijuana sales tax by one point, with the money going to mental-health and domestic-violence services that had lost photo-red-light funding, Sentinel Colorado reported. Buyers must be 21, with government photo ID, and can buy up to 1 ounce per transaction.

Colfax, Yale, Quincy and the far east

Aurora sprawls, and the stores follow the main roads. Fired Cannabis is on East Colfax Avenue and Livwell on North Peoria Street, both closer to Denver. Colorado Harvest Company is on East Yale Avenue, Jars has two shops on South Buckley Road and South Gun Club Road, and Green Dragon has two Aurora stores on East Quincy Avenue and East 6th Avenue. Best Buds is out on East 33rd Avenue.

  • Same brand, two licences: Green Dragon and Jars each hold two licence numbers here, so a listing for one shop does not cover the other.
  • Consumption: Colorado allows use only on private property or at a licensed hospitality business; public use is banned. The Colorado buying guide gives the ID and driving rules.
  • Next to Denver: Aurora borders the capital, whose store list is much bigger.

Cities can set stricter hours than the state. See the Colorado page for statewide rules.
