How it works

How cannabis is sold in Tacoma

The newest change touching Tacoma is medical: Ryan's Law, which lets terminally ill patients use medical cannabis in health care facilities, took effect on June 11, 2026, after Governor Ferguson signed it. Tacoma's retail rules are older and mostly unchanged since 2016.

Sixteen, eighteen or something else

Verdex lists 18 shops with a Tacoma address, more than the 16 the state set in 2016. Either the cap has changed or some mailing addresses are outside the city; I could not confirm which. Tacoma's code allows retail in most commercial, mixed-use, industrial and downtown zones, but, under the 2016 code amendments, not within 1,000 feet of playgrounds or secondary schools. Shops are spread from Craft Tacoma at 2128 S 37th and Dank’s Tacoma at 2632 S 38th to Clear Choice Cannabis on S 72nd, House Of Cannabis - Tacoma on S 56th, Bloom on Pacific Avenue South and Emerald Leaves on 6th Avenue.

Is Tacoma a medical market?

I found no evidence that Tacoma leans medical more than other Washington cities. State medical endorsements attach to individual stores, and Washington buying guide explains what they change. Rules that apply everywhere in the state are collected in the Washington hub.
