What the 2025 ordinance allows
The council voted 5 to 2, with Patrick Decker and David Parshall opposed, to allow up to four retailers in the General Commercial, Highway 99 Mixed Use, City Center, Alderwood, Alderwood City-Center Transition and Planned Commercial Development zones, at least 1,000 feet from schools and public playgrounds. The Herald reported that every retailer must hold a state medical endorsement, and that the city projects about $100,000 a year in tax. I could not confirm that the 7531 196th Street entry has opened. The bigger legal picture sits with the Washington overview.
