How the ban unwound
The council voted in October 2013 not to allow recreational shops, arguing that what was illegal under federal law would not be legal in Wenatchee. Shaun Preder, who wanted a licence, sued in June 2014, and the ACLU said it would join. A majority then told the city attorney to draft an ordinance dropping federal-law compliance from business licences, with a vote set for 26 June, according to the Wenatchee World. The Back Porch was expected to open in Skookum Plaza at Ninth Street and North Wenatchee Avenue.
