Seven of Alamogordo's 24 listed cannabis licences are on White Sands Boulevard, the town's main commercial strip, including Compassionate Distributors at 2617 North, Elevation 6420 at 423 South and Grandpa's Home Grown Herbs at 2419 North. Others are on East 10th Street, Highway 82 and Highway 54/70. All 24 entries are state-licensed cannabis businesses, though one is a manufacturer rather than a shop.

Adults 21 and over with a valid ID may buy. The state's cannabis excise tax rose to 14% on July 1, 2026, with local gross receipts tax added at the register.

Two things that catch Alamogordo buyers out

The first is the road. Reporting has described a Border Patrol checkpoint on US 70 at Alamogordo, and agents enforce federal law, so legally bought cannabis has been seized there even though the sale was licensed in New Mexico. Keep purchases at home or in a hotel room and do not drive them through a checkpoint.

The second is federal ground. Holloman Air Force Base is about six miles southwest of the town, and Defense Department policy still bars service members from using marijuana, whatever New Mexico law allows. White Sands is federal land too.

Licence types: one listing, Effy Exotics on Black Street, is a manufacturer with no counter, so do not plan a visit.
Out of town: 4A Farm (Stogies) is at 7246 Highway 54/70, well outside the White Sands Boulevard strip, so check the address before you drive.
Checking a shop: the licence-check guide shows how to confirm a New Mexico licence with the state.

Verdex has verified the licences but not yet scored these shops, so read the label and the lab result before you buy.

Questions about this list

Can I take cannabis from Alamogordo through the Border Patrol checkpoint?

You should not. Cannabis is still illegal under federal law, and news reports describe seizures of legally sold New Mexico cannabis at Border Patrol checkpoints, including on US 70 near Alamogordo. State licensing does not protect you there.

Do Alamogordo dispensaries sell to people from Texas?

Yes, any adult with a valid ID showing they are 21 or older can buy. Taking the product back across the state line is illegal under Texas and federal law, so use it within New Mexico.
