Clayton's cannabis trade is almost a single street. Nine of Verdex's 11 entries are on First Street, at numbers from 106 South to 303 North to 1623 South. Two entries even share 603 South First Street, KDS Dispensary and Keyway Inc, and two more share 1623: Frosty's Emporium and The Pot Hole. Off the street, Honeybudz has stores on Main Street and Monroe Street.

The town is the seat of Union County, in the state's north-east corner, close to both the Texas and Oklahoma borders. Buyers must be 21 with valid ID, and the state's limit for one purchase is 2 ounces of flower.

Reading a one-street market

Two licences at one address can reflect a change of ownership or two businesses in one building. Ask the counter which business you are paying and compare the name on the receipt with the licence listed on the door. Ultra Health, at 524 South First Street, announced in October 2018 that it had broken ground on a Clayton dispensary.

  • Neighbouring states: Texas and Oklahoma treat cannabis very differently from New Mexico, and taking a purchase across either line is illegal.
  • Carrying: adults may carry the same amounts they can buy in one sale.

Honeybudz runs two stores, on Main Street and Monroe Street, away from the First Street strip, and The Green Genie has entries at 303 North and 511 South First Street. For a small town the market is crowded, so quality rather than availability decides. Check test results, and use the licence-check guide to confirm any name you do not recognise. Verdex has no score for these shops yet.

Questions about this list

Why do some Clayton shops share the same address?

Verdex lists two pairs of entries at the same addresses, 603 South First Street and 1623 South First Street. This can reflect separate licences held by different businesses or a change of ownership, so confirm the current operator before you go.

Can I take Clayton cannabis into Texas or Oklahoma?

No. Clayton is close to both borders, but moving cannabis across a state line breaks federal law and the neighbouring state's rules, so plan to use New Mexico purchases in New Mexico.
