Three of the nine Michigan operators we list have a store on the same Detroit road: JARS Cannabis at 11400 E 8 Mile, House of Dank at 3340 E 8 Mile, which opened there in 2015, and Flavors Detroit at 5700 E 8 Mile. Adults 21 and older may buy and carry up to 2.5 ounces, with no more than 15 grams as concentrate, and keep up to 10 ounces at home.

Ann Arbor has a second cluster: Bloom City Club on Miller Avenue, Exclusive on Varsity Drive and Arborside on Packard Street. Every adult-use retailer holds an AU-R licence number in the Cannabis Regulatory Agency's public lookup, which also shows whether a store has approval for home delivery. Drivers may carry no more than 15 ounces at a time.

Local opt-outs, a wholesale tax and a licence you can lose

Municipalities can prohibit or limit cannabis businesses, so store density varies from one town to the next; Detroit, Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids all allow retail. Retail purchases carry a 10% excise tax and 6% sales tax. Since January 1, 2026 a 24% wholesale tax, adopted in the state's road funding law, applies earlier in the chain and was still being fought in court. Headset put January 2026 retail sales at $226.4 million, down 8.3% from a year earlier.

  • Shop on the register: Leaf & Bud on Livernois Avenue and The House of Mary Jane on the James Couzens Freeway service drive are Detroit independents with different hours and specials.
  • Lose a licence: the CRA's August 2026 report listed two retail or provisioning stores, in Williamsburg and Lapeer, among licences not renewed.
  • Public use: a civil infraction with a fine of up to $100.

Check the number on the lookup before you order or pay a deposit, because a store whose licence was not renewed can no longer sell legally. Our Michigan buying guide explains the tax stack, and the August 2026 disciplinary report names the stores that were dropped.

Questions about this list

Do Michigan dispensaries deliver?

Some. There is no standalone delivery licence: only CRA-licensed sales locations with an approved home-delivery procedure may deliver, and the CRA's lookup shows whether a store has approval. Drivers may carry no more than 15 ounces.

What taxes apply to cannabis in Michigan?

A 10% excise tax and a 6% sales tax at retail. Since January 1, 2026 a separate 24% wholesale tax applies earlier in the supply chain under the Comprehensive Road Funding Tax Act, and its legality was still being challenged in court in 2026.

Can a Michigan town ban dispensaries?

Yes. Michigan lets municipalities prohibit or limit cannabis businesses, so a shop may exist in one town and not the next. Detroit, Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids all allow retail.
