On February 10, 2025 the Schenectady City Council unanimously approved its first cannabis-shop zoning, according to the Daily Gazette: no new dispensary within 500 feet of a park, playground, child-care centre or other venue for minors, none in residential districts, and shops already open grandfathered. Verdex lists 13 licensed stores, among them Cannabicity at Mohawk Harbor and Electric City Cannabis on Lower Broadway. Shoppers must be 21 or older with ID, and none of the 13 has a Verdex score yet, so licence data and location are what this page can offer.

Where Schenectady allows new stores

The 2025 rules confine new shops to manufacturing and warehousing districts and the C-4 downtown mixed-use and C-5 business districts, with C-2 and C-3 allowed by special permit, the Gazette reported. The People's Joint at 501 State Street, which opened in September 2024 near Proctors, sits in C-4 and was grandfathered. State law adds 500 feet from schools and 200 feet from houses of worship.

The city applied similar limits to smoke and vape shops in June 2024, so a storefront with only a leaf logo needs a licence check. Use the licensed versus smoke-shop guide and open the New York hub for statewide rules; the 13% retail tax applies here as elsewhere.
