Trinidad's code limits how many marijuana stores may open: no more than 20 retail and medical locations together, not counting licences that already existed on May 1, 2016, according to the city's marijuana code as published by the Colorado Municipal League (2021 edition). Verdex lists 14 dispensaries here. Counter rules match the rest of Colorado: 21 or older, photo ID, 1 ounce of flower per transaction.
Trinidad is the first sizeable Colorado town north of Raton Pass on Interstate 25. Stores range from Native Roots on Santa Fe Trail to the downtown cluster around Magnolia Road Cannabis Company on North Commercial Street.

- Zoning: under the city code stores need a conditional use permit in Community Commercial, Industrial or the Corazon de Trinidad Historical Preservation District. None may be in a residential zone or within 1,000 feet of a school.
- Who licenses: the City Council acts as the marijuana licensing authority.
- Grow fee: the code charges cultivators $25 per pound produced, a cost for growers, not shoppers.
Many visitors come from New Mexico, where legal stores exist but the state line is still a federal boundary: carrying cannabis across it is illegal even between two legal states. Buy what you will use in Colorado, in a private place. For the state's limits and taxes, see the Colorado guide.
