Eight platforms issue about 80% of UK medical cannabis prescriptions, according to Prohibition Partners' June 2026 report, in a private market of roughly 40 clinics. Any prescription must come from a doctor on the GMC Specialist Register, and an English clinic must be registered with the Care Quality Commission.
Verdex lists 23 clinics, 22 verified, nine of them in London: Releaf in Muswell Hill, Mamedica in Holborn and Integro Clinics on Harley Street among them. Prescribed cannabis, flower included, must not be smoked, and anything bought outside this channel remains a Class B drug.

These are prices the clinics published in September 2026, not quotes, and medicine is billed on top.
| Clinic | Published first step |
|---|---|
| Curaleaf Clinic | £30 per appointment, or £5 a month or £50 a year for a plan |
| Mamedica | £49 onboarding (Flex), £150 (Standard), £75 (transfer from another clinic) |
| Releaf | £29.99 consultation; £39.99 a month for Releaf+ |
| Integro Clinics | Free video consultation; £4.99 per prescription |
| Leva Clinic | £15 initial consultation (chronic pain) |
The medicine is the bigger bill. Prohibition Partners put the average price of prescribed flower at £6.80 a gram in mid-2026, so a 20 g month is about £136 before fees. The "two failed treatments" rule is not in law; it is a clinic's entry criterion.
The CQC report is the best free evidence of how a clinic runs. In February 2026 it published a "requires improvement" rating for Montu Group UK Ltd, which trades as Alternaleaf; the company said it had made changes and was challenging some findings, according to Cannabis Health News. Ask who your named prescriber is and if you may use another pharmacy. Our clinic comparison guide and prescription guide give the full checklist.
Questions about this list
Can my GP prescribe medical cannabis in the UK?
No. Only a doctor on the GMC Specialist Register can start a cannabis-based prescription. The NHS names three medicines it may prescribe (Epidyolex, nabilone and Sativex) for specific conditions, and it tells other patients not to ask their GP for a referral.
Do I need to have tried two treatments first?
Not by law. That expectation comes from individual clinics' entry criteria, which generally ask for a diagnosed condition and evidence that licensed treatments did not work or caused side effects.
Can I drive on a medical cannabis prescription in England?
The drug-driving limit for THC in England and Wales is 2 micrograms per litre of blood. A medical defence applies if the medicine was prescribed and taken as directed, according to the government's drug-driving guidance summarized in our prescription guide.
Buying in the United Kingdom
Possession (no prescription)
Illegal. Cannabis is Class B, with a maximum of five years' imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine; for possession, police may instead give a warning or a penalty notice of up to £90 on the spot.
Prescribed cannabis
Legal when prescribed by a doctor on the GMC Specialist Register and dispensed by a registered pharmacy.
Home grow
Illegal. Growing counts as production of a Class B drug, with a maximum of 14 years in prison; a prescription does not permit cultivation.
Public use
Using non-prescribed cannabis anywhere is illegal, and prescribed cannabis-based products must not be smoked.
