Retail cannabis is allowed in neighbourhood commercial, commercial and automotive, highway commercial, waterfront planned development and central business zones, plus office and residential and redevelopment areas that permit retail, according to JerseyDigs. That gives a map of avenues rather than one downtown cluster. The city ordinance keeps 200 feet between a store and a school, and between two cannabis businesses.

The cap that has not passed

The proposal would allow 48 stores, but licensed stores would be grandfathered, so Hudson County View reported the real ceiling would be closer to 67. It has been reviewed in caucus and tabled twice; we cannot confirm a final vote, so check the council record. The same package proposed six consumption lounges, one per ward, closing at 11 p.m. Confirm any shop on the Cannabis Regulatory Commission's list first; steps are in the licence guide. Do not carry purchases into New York: the crossing is a federal offence. More on the New Jersey hub.
