How it works

How cannabis is sold in Atlantic City

How many shops can Atlantic City have?

Sixteen. Ordinance 87 of 2025, adopted on October 22, 2025, limits the city to 12 standard retail licences and four microbusiness ones, following a Stockton University study that recommended stopping at 16, according to law firm Cooper Levenson. There were 15 open retailers in June 2025. The ordinance has no explicit grandfathering for approved stores that had not yet opened, so a 17th listing here is a reason to check which licences are live.

Can I use it in a casino?

No. Federal law keeps commercial casinos out of cannabis, and inside the Tourism District a shop needs approval from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, which steered them to a designated zone. The CRDA approved consumption lounges at four dispensaries, reported as ENDO, High Rollers, Legal Distribution and SunnyTien. Hours vary, so call before you go. Beaches and public places are out; a hotel room is the operator's call.

Boardwalk, Pacific Avenue or the Green Zone?

Atlantic Avenue is the spine: Everest at 1226, Honey Buzz Farms at 1724, Juniper Lane at 2305, Bakin' Bad at 2834 and Legal Distribution at 3112. Outliers include AC Leef on North Albany Avenue, Design 710 on Park Place and High Rollers on South Indiana Avenue.

What is the licence scandal?

In September 2026 federal prosecutors charged Kashawn McKinley, the city's director of constituent services and a member of its Cannabis Review Board, with honest services fraud and soliciting bribes, alleging $20,000 in 2022 to 2023 and $9,000 in 2025 to 2026 from a dispensary owner. They say he reclassified the shop as a microbusiness, cutting its annual city fee from $25,000 to $2,500. These are allegations. The state basics are in our New Jersey guide.
