How it works

How cannabis is sold in Tampa

A winter resident in Tampa can buy legally, and a weekend visitor cannot, and the difference is a piece of paper from the Florida Department of Health.

  1. Prove you live here part of the year.
Florida accepts permanent and seasonal residents. The statute defines a seasonal resident as someone who lives in Florida at least 31 consecutive days a year, keeps a temporary residence here and votes or pays income tax elsewhere. Without a Florida licence, two proof-of-address documents are sent.
  2. See a certified physician and register.
The state card costs $75 a year plus $2.75 online, per our card guide.
  3. Buy at a licensed treatment centre.
Verdex lists one Tampa address, MÜV at 7229 North Dale Mabry Highway.
  4. Know the local rule that stays.
Tampa's code, section 27-282.29, keeps dispensaries 500 feet from a school.

What does Tampa's civil citation change?

Nothing about buying. Tampa's code section 14-62 lets police write a civil citation instead of an arrest for 20 grams or less, with fines from $75 up to $450 on a fourth offence, according to the ordinance text as published in 2019. It covers only the Tampa police, and other agencies can still file criminal charges. We could not confirm from a city source that it is still applied, so treat it as background, not a licence to carry.

One listing is what our register holds for Tampa proper. Stores under other city names in Hillsborough County are not verified here.

Cannabis in Tampa: questions

Can a tourist get a Florida card in Tampa?

Only if they qualify as a seasonal resident. An out-of-state medical card does not count as Florida residency.

Why does Verdex list only one Tampa shop?

Our register holds one Tampa-addressed store. Other stores in Hillsborough County may carry different city names, and we have not verified them.
