Columbus was the biggest winner in the state's first payout of adult-use cannabis tax: WOSU reported that the city received $4.2 million, and City Council passed an ordinance in January 2026 saying it intends to spend it on human services, education and workforce development. Verdex lists 18 Ohio-licensed dispensaries in the city, one with a score, and the entries sit on the ring roads rather than downtown: Amplify on N Hamilton Road, Bloom Medicinals on Georgesville Road and Elevated Growth on High Cross Boulevard. Buyers must be 21 or older.

Rules that changed on March 20, 2026

Senate Bill 56 rewrote parts of Ohio's cannabis law, and three changes matter most at the counter.

  • Origin: lawful possession covers only Ohio dispensary purchases or Ohio home grows, so cannabis from Michigan, Illinois or Kentucky is illegal to carry into the state.
  • Cars: open packages must go in the trunk, and under SB 56 public smoking or vaping is a minor misdemeanor.
  • Duplicate rows: Bloom Medicinals appears twice, on Georgesville Road and Lockbourne Road. Those are two shops with separate certificates.
  • Tax: 10% adult-use excise plus state and local sales tax, according to the Division of Cannabis Control.
  • Certificates: only dispensaries with a dual-use certificate of operation may sell to adult-use buyers, as the Division's list of certificate holders showed in 2024. Ask whether a store is medical-only.

More stores include Greenlight at 1243 N Cassady Avenue, Certified Columbus on Silver Drive and Culture Retail Partners on Holly Avenue. The Ohio buying guide has the limits, and the Ohio hub shows other cities.
