The rules

Key rules in Canada

Plain-language summary. The regulator is Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB), Government of B.C..

  • Minimum age

18 in Alberta, 21 in Quebec, 19 in all other provinces and territories.

  • Possession

    30 g of dried cannabis or equivalent in public (1 g dried = 5 g fresh, 15 g edible solids, 70 g non-solid products, 570 g beverages, 0.25 g concentrates or 1 seed). Some provinces cap home storage, e.g. 150 g per residence in Quebec and 1,000 g per household in B.C.

  • Home grow

Up to 4 plants per residence under federal law. Prohibited in Quebec. Manitoba passed Bill 34 in June 2024 and home growing became legal there on May 1, 2025 (19+, up to 4 plants per household, grown indoors; gov.mb.ca).

How it works

How cannabis is sold in Prince George

Which street should you head for in Prince George?

Is George Street the answer downtown?

Yes. Epik Products is at 356 George Street and Grasshopper Retail at 421, and the Prince George Citizen reported when council approved a second cannabis store on George Street. Cannabis here sells on a small number of streets.

Is Grasshopper one shop or three?

One operator, three doors: the register lists Grasshopper Retail Inc. on George Street, John Hart Highway and Ospika Boulevard S. Three roads in three parts of the city means one company covers a lot of ground, and it is worth knowing before you compare its prices with a rival's.

What does the city itself regulate?

The City's Liquor and Cannabis Licensing Policy gives guidelines on hours of operation, occupant load and location, and a store that needs rezoning goes through council, whose reports name specific addresses. Verdex lists 15 stores, all matched to the LCRB register.

Who else is on the list?

Canna Cabana is on Victoria Street, Cosmic Cannabis on Strathcona Avenue, Dragon's Peak on Vance Road and Flora Cannabis on Massey Drive. With few stores per neighbourhood, comparing two or three takes an afternoon. Delivery is covered in the provincial B.C. section.

Cannabis in Prince George: questions

Does Prince George cap the number of cannabis stores?

The City's policy sets guidelines on hours, occupant load and location rather than a store count, and stores that need rezoning go to council.

Which Prince George operator has more than one store?

Grasshopper Retail Inc. appears three times in the register: on George Street, John Hart Highway and Ospika Boulevard S.
