How it works

How cannabis is sold in Coquitlam

Coquitlam's council fixed the number of cannabis stores at six before any of them opened.

Which parts of town were given a store?

On December 13, 2021 council approved a framework that names the slots: up to two in City Centre and one each in Burquitlam, Lougheed, Austin Heights and Maillardville, the City of Coquitlam's framework page states. Zoning has been granted for six stores, and the city says it is not considering applications for more. Verdex lists six, so the register and the cap match. Northern Lights Cannabis is on Austin Avenue, the Austin Heights slot. Imagine Cannabis Co, on Clarke Road, was the first to open, per the Tri-City News. KJ's Best is on Barnet Highway, Seed & Stone on Young Drive, The Local Leaf on Glen Drive and Brunette Cannabis Company on Brunette Avenue.

Will the cap move?

"At this time" is the city's wording, which is not a promise. I found no council item reopening the framework. The province-wide age and tax rules sit on the B.C. hub.
