Home grow
Up to 4 plants per residence under federal law. Prohibited in Quebec. Manitoba passed Bill 34 in June 2024 and home growing became legal there on May 1, 2025 (19+, up to 4 plants per household, grown indoors; gov.mb.ca).

Set provincially: generally allowed where tobacco smoking is in Ontario and B.C. (with exceptions); smoking and vaping banned in all public spaces in Quebec; no public consumption in New Brunswick; private dwellings only in PEI; restricted in Alberta and Nova Scotia; not in vehicles.

Vernon's first legal store, a Spiritleaf at 2500 53rd Avenue, opened on Monday, July 1 (2019, per the Vernon Morning Star). Council adopted a two-year moratorium on new applications on July 29, 2019, according to Vernon Matters, and had capped shops in the downtown business improvement area at six. A 500 metre gap between stores was proposed in December 2021, per the Western News.
What is the Green Mile?
About a dozen unlicensed shops along Westside Road near Vernon, nicknamed the Green Mile, were raided in late October 2024 by the RCMP and the province's Community Safety Unit, Castanet reported, and several reopened within days.
