Look up a licenseHow cannabis is sold in Maldonado
Maldonado had seven pharmacies authorized to sell adult-use cannabis in April 2026, the third-highest count in Uruguay. IRCCA's list places them in Punta del Este, the city of Maldonado (including Barrio Hipódromo), San Carlos, Aiguá and the coastal village of Las Flores on Route 10.
Because Punta del Este draws large numbers of foreign visitors, it is worth stressing that the pharmacies here follow the same national rules as everywhere else. Only Uruguayan citizens and permanent residents aged 18 or over who have registered with IRCCA can buy, up to 10 g a week in 5 g packets at fixed prices. IRCCA said in February 2026 that it was studying access for non-residents, but no change had been adopted by September 2026. Buying from unlicensed sellers remains illegal, and legally bought cannabis cannot be taken out of the country. Smoking is also banned in enclosed public places and workplaces, including taxis and buses, under IRCCA's rules.
