How cannabis is sold in Cerro Largo

Cerro Largo, on Uruguay's eastern border with Brazil, has one pharmacy authorized to sell adult-use cannabis: the one at Dr. Luis A. de Herrera 650 in Melo, the departmental capital, according to IRCCA's September 2026 list. Buyers in Río Branco, the border town on the Yaguarón River, have no local counter and must travel to Melo, join one of the department's five clubs or grow at home.

Each of those routes has its own ceiling. A home grower may keep up to six female plants per household and harvest no more than 480 g a year, and registers once; IRCCA lists Correo Uruguayo offices in Melo and Río Branco for that. Clubs are civil associations of 15 to 45 residents sharing one registered grow of up to 99 plants, with no more than 480 g a year per member. Pharmacy buyers are capped at 10 g a week and 40 g a month in sealed 5 g packets, priced from $U 500 to $U 630 since August 2026. A person may use only one route at a time.

The market is closed to visitors. Brazilian shoppers who cross into Río Branco cannot register, and legal Uruguayan cannabis may not be taken over the bridge. Up to 40 g counts as personal possession for registered users.
