Cannabis in Artigas

Uruguay's northernmost department has a single pharmacy on IRCCA's September 2026 list: Farmacia Saga, at Gral. Manuel Oribe 476 in the city of Artigas. IRCCA's market report for January to April 2026 still counted two pharmacies here, so check the current list before travelling. Bella Unión, the department's other large town, has none. Three membership clubs were registered in Artigas in April 2026, one of the lowest counts in the country.

Law 19.172 applies unchanged. Only Uruguayan citizens and permanent residents aged 18 or over can register, and each person picks one route: pharmacy, club or home grow. Pharmacy buyers sign up at Correo Uruguayo or at a participating pharmacy with a cédula and proof of address, then identify themselves by fingerprint. For home growers, IRCCA lists the departmental post office in Artigas and the Bella Unión branch as registration points. Pharmacies sell sealed 5 g packets, no more than 10 g a week and 40 g a month, at state prices from $U 500 (Alfa) to $U 630 (Épsilon) since August 1, 2026.

Artigas faces Quaraí in Brazil across the Cuareim River, and Bella Unión sits where Uruguay meets Brazil and Argentina. Visitors from either neighbor cannot register, and cannabis bought legally in Uruguay may not leave the country.
