Cannabis in Sunderland
Sunderland's one listed seller is a delivery-only pharmacy, so the useful question is who prescribes, not where to walk in.

Plain-language summary. The regulator is Care Quality Commission.
Possession (no prescription)
Illegal. Cannabis is Class B, with a maximum of five years' imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine; for possession, police may instead give a warning or a penalty notice of up to £90 on the spot.
Prescribed cannabis
Legal when prescribed by a doctor on the GMC Specialist Register and dispensed by a registered pharmacy.
Home grow
Illegal. Growing counts as production of a Class B drug, with a maximum of 14 years in prison; a prescription does not permit cultivation.
Public use
Using non-prescribed cannabis anywhere is illegal, and prescribed cannabis-based products must not be smoked.
Driving
Driving while impaired is illegal everywhere in the UK. England, Scotland and Wales also have drug limits (THC: 2 µg per litre of blood in England and Wales); the limit offense does not apply to drugs taken as prescribed if you are fit to drive. Minimum penalty: a one-year ban.
CBD products
Allowed as food only if linked to an application on the FSA public list (England and Wales) and if controlled cannabinoids such as THC stay within 1 mg per container.
Daily CBD intake
FSA advice: healthy adults should have no more than 10 mg of CBD a day from food; the THC safe upper limit is about 70 µg a day for an adult (July 2025).
Age
No statutory minimum age for a specialist prescription (NHS use includes children with rare epilepsies), but the private clinics in our directory take adults only (18+, or 21+ at Integro). The FSA advises under-18s not to take CBD.

The date that made Sunderland's only listed seller possible is 1 November 2018, when the law let specialist doctors prescribe cannabis-based medicines.
Cannabis-based products for medicinal use become prescribable, but only by or under a doctor on the GMC specialist register, according to the Care Quality Commission.
Rokshaw, the Sunderland manufacturer that owns Curaleaf Pharmacy, announces the Four20 Pharma range for private prescription, Business of Cannabis reported.
Rokshaw's medical cannabis division is rebranded Curaleaf Laboratories, Chemist + Druggist reported on 19 April.
The pharmacy's first routine GPhC inspection at its current site finds every standard met, according to the register.
A Pallion address with no counter
The GPhC describes the pharmacy as a delivery-only service supplying mostly unlicensed medicines, so Riverside Industrial Estate in Pallion is where prescriptions are filled, not where anyone queues. The register shows premises number 9012275 and no conditions or enforcement history. Courier delivery covers the whole UK, according to Curaleaf International, and a prescription written for another pharmacy can be transferred over. Reviewers in September 2026 mostly complain about delays against the stated two-week window, so build slack into a repeat order. The UK prescription guide explains how to find a clinic, and the England page has the nation-wide picture.
Cannabis in Sunderland: questions
Can I get medical cannabis in Sunderland without paying a private clinic?
In practice rarely. The Medical Cannabis Clinicians Society estimated in April 2026 that about 95,000 UK patients had received prescriptions, mostly from roughly 40 private clinics, while NHS prescribing stays extremely limited.
Who makes what Curaleaf Pharmacy dispenses?
The pharmacy says its products come from sister company Rokshaw Laboratories, which is regulated by the MHRA. It also handles imported products.
