The rules

Key rules in the United Kingdom

Plain-language summary. The regulator is Care Quality Commission.

  • Possession (no prescription)

Illegal. Cannabis is Class B, with a maximum of five years' imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine; for possession, police may instead give a warning or a penalty notice of up to £90 on the spot.

  • Prescribed cannabis

Legal when prescribed by a doctor on the GMC Specialist Register and dispensed by a registered pharmacy.

  • Home grow

Illegal. Growing counts as production of a Class B drug, with a maximum of 14 years in prison; a prescription does not permit cultivation.

  • Public use

Using non-prescribed cannabis anywhere is illegal, and prescribed cannabis-based products must not be smoked.

  • Driving

Driving while impaired is illegal everywhere in the UK. England, Scotland and Wales also have drug limits (THC: 2 µg per litre of blood in England and Wales); the limit offense does not apply to drugs taken as prescribed if you are fit to drive. Minimum penalty: a one-year ban.

  • CBD products

Allowed as food only if linked to an application on the FSA public list (England and Wales) and if controlled cannabinoids such as THC stay within 1 mg per container.

  • Daily CBD intake

FSA advice: healthy adults should have no more than 10 mg of CBD a day from food; the THC safe upper limit is about 70 µg a day for an adult (July 2025).

  • Age

No statutory minimum age for a specialist prescription (NHS use includes children with rare epilepsies), but the private clinics in our directory take adults only (18+, or 21+ at Integro). The FSA advises under-18s not to take CBD.

How it works

How cannabis is sold in Croydon

Croydon's one listing became a CQC-registered clinic only in January 2026, so its track record is measured in months.

Who is behind Dispensed?

Dispensed is run by Plantmed Clinic UK Ltd from 301-305 High Street, Croydon, as an online service. The register does not describe a shop front, so the High Street address is the company's base, and appointments take place remotely. Its CQC registration dates from January 2026, per the register. Croydon, as a London borough, adds no local rule: possession without a prescription remains a Class B offence, so only a prescribed product is lawful. The UK prescription guide explains what an assessment involves.

What does £7 a gram tell you?

The register lists flower from £7 a gram. That figure is a starting price on the listing, checked in September 2026, not what every patient pays, and it excludes consultation and delivery. Compare it against the costs in the clinic cost comparison, remembering that the cheapest product is not always the one prescribed for a given condition. Other London-area entries are on the England hub.

Cannabis in Croydon: questions

Is Dispensed a pharmacy?

No. The register describes it as an online medical cannabis clinic. A separate pharmacy dispenses any prescription it issues.

Can I use it if I live outside Croydon?

The service is online and prescriptions are private, so your location matters less than the clinic's regulator registration and your eligibility.
