The rules

Key rules in the United Kingdom

Plain-language summary. The regulator is Care Quality Commission.

  • Possession (no prescription)

Illegal. Cannabis is Class B, with a maximum of five years' imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine; for possession, police may instead give a warning or a penalty notice of up to £90 on the spot.

  • Prescribed cannabis

Legal when prescribed by a doctor on the GMC Specialist Register and dispensed by a registered pharmacy.

  • Home grow

Illegal. Growing counts as production of a Class B drug, with a maximum of 14 years in prison; a prescription does not permit cultivation.

  • Public use

Using non-prescribed cannabis anywhere is illegal, and prescribed cannabis-based products must not be smoked.

  • Driving

Driving while impaired is illegal everywhere in the UK. England, Scotland and Wales also have drug limits (THC: 2 µg per litre of blood in England and Wales); the limit offense does not apply to drugs taken as prescribed if you are fit to drive. Minimum penalty: a one-year ban.

  • CBD products

Allowed as food only if linked to an application on the FSA public list (England and Wales) and if controlled cannabinoids such as THC stay within 1 mg per container.

  • Daily CBD intake

FSA advice: healthy adults should have no more than 10 mg of CBD a day from food; the THC safe upper limit is about 70 µg a day for an adult (July 2025).

  • Age

No statutory minimum age for a specialist prescription (NHS use includes children with rare epilepsies), but the private clinics in our directory take adults only (18+, or 21+ at Integro). The FSA advises under-18s not to take CBD.

How it works

How cannabis is sold in Coventry

Coventry's only cannabis listing sits on Coventry University Technology Park, in the Technocentre on Puma Way, not on a high street.

Reading a Requires improvement rating

The care regulator rates in four bands, and Requires improvement is the second lowest. It signals that inspectors found gaps, not that the service has been closed. Look for the date, which of the five questions fell short, and whether the clinic has published a response. A new name after a rebrand can hide a long history, so search for the old one, Treat It Clinic, too. The £9 plan is a subscription, not the price of medicine, which the dispensing pharmacy charges separately, and Verdex scores the clinic 7.4. The clinic comparison guide covers what else to check, and the England page lists comparable clinics. Coventry offers no local dispensing option on this register, so a patient here relies on delivery.

Cannabis in Coventry: questions

Can I visit Verkind in Coventry?

The address is a technology park building, and the clinic works online, so assume no walk-in appointments unless the clinic confirms otherwise.

Was Verkind always called that?

No. The register records it as formerly Treat It Clinic, so past inspection reports may sit under the earlier name.
