About Amnesia Haze

The Amnesia Haze strain has been one of Amsterdam's best-known coffeeshop cultivars since the early 2000s. Is Amnesia Haze indica or sativa? It is a sativa-leaning hybrid: AllBud lists it at 80% sativa and CannaConnection at 70%, with Southeast Asian and Jamaican sativa landraces doing most of the work and an Afghani-Hawaiian line adding structure.

Leafly reviewers describe it first as citrus and lemon, then lime, with earthy and floral notes underneath, and AllBud's tasters say much the same. Its terpene data is more balanced than the smell suggests: Leafly's lab figures show myrcene, beta-caryophyllene and limonene at similar levels, with humulene and pinene behind. Limonene gives the lemon, caryophyllene a peppery warmth, and the classic Haze incense sits on top — a profile Leafly's Haze genealogy groups with Jack Herer's sharper, fruit-and-skunk side of the family.

Amnesia Haze effects are loud and cheerful. In Leafly's user data the strongest reports are giggly, euphoric, talkative, happy and uplifted, with energetic and creative close behind, so it tends to suit social afternoons more than quiet evenings. It also has one of the highest paranoia scores among the classics in this guide, followed by dry mouth, dizziness and anxiety. That combination is typical of potent Hazes: pleasant at small amounts, easy to overshoot. THC is usually quoted at 19–24% (Leafly's lab median 19%, AllBud 20–22%, CannaConnection 22–24%), and most people treat it as a daytime strain with an early stopping point.

Compared with Super Lemon Haze, Amnesia Haze is less purely citrus and more giggly in Leafly's data; compared with the original Haze, its reviewers lean toward citrus rather than spice. It is still a patience plant. CannaConnection lists 12–13 weeks of flowering and plants that reach 175–250 cm outdoors, so indoor growers usually train it early and give it room, and outdoor crops need a long, warm autumn to finish.

Origin & history

Amnesia Haze is credited to Soma, the breeder behind Soma Seeds, who settled in Amsterdam in 1994. Fat Nugs Magazine describes it as the city's best-known cultivar since the early 2000s; its lineage is usually given as Jamaican and Southeast Asian sativas plus an Afghani-Hawaiian that Soma has confirmed was one of his own lines. An Amnesia Haze entered by Barney's Breakfast Bar won the overall High Times Cannabis Cup in 2004, and Soma's Sacred Seeds took first place in the Sativa Cup with it in 2012. Many seed companies now sell their own versions under the same name.
