About Super Lemon Haze
The Super Lemon Haze strain is what happens when a citrus-heavy Skunk meets one of the most decorated Dutch Hazes. Green House Seeds crossed Lemon Skunk with its own Super Silver Haze and won the High Times Cannabis Cup in both 2008 and 2009 with the result. Is Super Lemon Haze indica or sativa? It is a sativa-leaning hybrid, listed by Green House at 70% sativa and 30% indica.
The name is accurate. Leafly reviewers rate lemon, citrus and lime far above anything else, and Green House describes lemon zest over the woody, pine-fresh dryness of Haze, with some tasters noticing the sharp "cat pee" edge that Haze lines are known for. On the terpene side the sources broadly agree: High Times and Leafly's lab data put terpinolene first, while Green House lists beta-caryophyllene, limonene and terpinolene. Terpinolene gives the bright, herbal top note, limonene the citrus peel, and caryophyllene a peppery base that stops it tasting like candy.
Super Lemon Haze effects are fast and mostly mental. Leafly's user data leads with energetic, followed by focused, uplifted and creative, and people commonly report using it for daytime tasks, fatigue and low mood. Green House says the high arrives quickly with a short body hit before the Haze side takes over, and that it lasts a long time for experienced smokers. Anxiety is the most common downside in Leafly's reports, ahead of dry mouth, so people sensitive to strong sativas often keep sessions short. Potency is high: Leafly's lab median is 19% THC, High Times gives 19–26%, and Green House has published a test result above 26%.
Lemon Haze is a different cross (Lemon Skunk × Silver Haze, per Leafly and AllBud), although sellers sometimes mix up the two names. Compared with Jack Herer, it swaps pine for lemon but shares the terpinolene backbone. Growers need headroom: the plant stretches to at least twice its size after the switch to flowering, needs about ten weeks, and rewards topping and support for heavy side branches.
Origin & history
Green House Seeds created Super Lemon Haze in Amsterdam in the late 2000s; Wikipedia credits the cross to breeder Franco Loja. Its parents were Lemon Skunk and Green House's Super Silver Haze, itself a back-to-back Cannabis Cup winner in 1998 and 1999 that combines Haze, Skunk #1 and Northern Lights. Super Lemon Haze repeated that feat, winning the Amsterdam Cup outright in 2008 and again in 2009, then placing second in 2010. High Times later included it among its 25 greatest strains of all time.
