€6.43 a gram. That was the average pharmacy price for medical cannabis flower in Germany in September 2026, according to the CannaPreis market report. Germany has no cannabis shops: the only place to buy flower is a pharmacy, on a prescription issued under the Medical Cannabis Act (MedCanG), which has treated it as an ordinary medicine since April 1, 2024. Verdex lists 15 pharmacies, 10 of them verified, from jiroo in Berlin-Tempelhof to Grünhorn in Leipzig and Apotheke LUX 99 in Hürth, which has dispensed medical cannabis since 2010. Stock and price per gram differ more between pharmacies than most patients expect.

Compare a pharmacy on four things, not one
- Price per gram. The same cultivar can differ by several euros between pharmacies. Price surveys cited by Verdex show a market band of roughly €3.50 to €16 a gram.
- Stock. Specialised pharmacies keep dozens of cultivars; a local pharmacy may need to order in.
- Batch data. The label carries cultivar, THC, CBD and batch number. Ask for the certificate of analysis.
- Delivery. Mail order is legal today, which is why a pharmacy near Munich (Bavarian Cannabis in Puchheim) or a village outside Magdeburg (Cannasana) can serve patients anywhere.
Two 2026 changes affect what you pay and how it arrives. Since July 30, 2026, statutory health insurance no longer covers cannabis flower, according to the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians of Rhineland-Palatinate; standardized extracts, dronabinol and nabilone can still be covered. And the government's amendment bill (Bundestag printed paper 21/3061) would require an in-person first visit and end mail-order flower, though a pharmacy's own courier would stay allowed. It was not law on September 27, 2026.
Details on the online route are in our telemedicine prescription guide, and price comparison tips in the pharmacy price guide.
Questions about this list
Do I need a prescription to buy cannabis in a German pharmacy?
Yes. Medical cannabis is dispensed only by pharmacies, on an ordinary prescription under the Medical Cannabis Act (MedCanG), in force since April 1, 2024. There is no over-the-counter sale of THC cannabis.
Does German health insurance still pay for cannabis flower?
No. Since July 30, 2026, statutory insurers no longer cover flower, including for patients approved earlier, according to the Rhineland-Palatinate physicians' association. Standardized extracts, dronabinol and nabilone can still be reimbursed.
Can a German pharmacy send cannabis by post?
Yes, as of September 2026. A cabinet bill, printed paper 21/3061, would ban mail-order flower and require an in-person first visit, but it had not passed. Pharmacies' own courier delivery would remain allowed under it.
