Germany imported 67.6 tonnes of medical cannabis in the first quarter of 2026, according to corrected BfArM figures reported by Hanf Magazin, and 205.1 tonnes in all of 2025. Domestic growing is a small part of that supply. Verdex lists three suppliers on the pharmacy side of the market. DEMECAN grows in Ebersbach near Dresden under a BfArM permit. Canify imports, processes and releases medical cannabis for German pharmacies from a GMP facility in Leipheim, Bavaria. Cannaflos, in Cologne, has supplied pharmacies since 2019. None sells to patients: the product reaches you only through a pharmacy on a prescription.

What a supplier's name means for a patient
A patient never orders from these companies, but the supplier is printed on what you receive. The pharmacy label shows cultivar, THC and CBD content and batch number, and the certificate of analysis names the producer or importer. Comparing suppliers is therefore a matter of asking the pharmacy which product line it stocks and at what price per gram.

More supply has gone hand in hand with falling pharmacy prices. Two policy changes now sit on top: statutory insurers stopped covering flower on July 30, 2026, and the government bill 21/3061 would end mail-order supply of flower if passed. The corrected import number suggests the insurance cut arrived while the market was still growing.

Can I buy medical cannabis directly from Demecan or another producer?
No. German producers and importers release medical cannabis to pharmacies, and products reach patients only through pharmacies on a prescription, according to the companies' Verdex profiles and the Medical Cannabis Act.
Where does German pharmacy cannabis come from?
Mostly from imports. Germany imported about 73 tonnes of flower in 2024 and about 205 tonnes in 2025, according to BfArM's import chart, while domestic growers such as Demecan supply a smaller share.
Why did BfArM's first-quarter 2026 import figure change?
