A licensed cannabis driver in California may deliver only between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., only to a physical address, and only after checking your ID in person, according to the state's Department of Cannabis Control. Regulators in other states borrow that model. Delivery is legal for adult use in about 14 states and for medical patients in 15 more (Marijuana Herald, June 2025); everywhere else it is not. Verdex lists 228 delivery services, 4 with full profiles, clustered around Humble Root in Sacramento (operating since 2015), the Bay Area and Greater Boston, where Dris runs same-day orders from Natick.

Delivery is a separate permission from a shop licence

A state can license stores and still ban the van. The fine print differs sharply, and cities can be stricter than the state.

  • Colorado: delivery is prohibited in a municipality or county unless it passes an ordinance allowing it (Marijuana Enforcement Division).
  • Michigan: no standalone delivery licence; only licensed sales locations with an approved procedure deliver, carrying no more than 15 oz per driver.
  • Massachusetts: delivery operators and couriers hold their own licence types, and towns must allow them. Zyp Run is licensed by the Cannabis Control Commission as a Delivery Operator.
  • Illinois: home delivery is still not legal; a 2026 overhaul (Public Act 104-0463) added drive-through and curbside pickup instead.

Several listings on this page are register rows, not storefronts. California licence numbers with a C9 prefix mark non-storefront retailers, and one brand can hold several. 710 Labs appears four times under four different C9 numbers, so count licences, not brands.

Warning signs of an illegal service, ranked by strength: no licence number that passes the state lookup, orders taken over Telegram or Instagram, shipping across state lines, payment by Zelle or Cash App to a personal account, and no ID check. Is cannabis delivery legal in the US?

Only from state-licensed businesses in states that authorize it: about 14 states for adult use and 15 more for medical patients as of mid-2025, according to The Marijuana Herald. Your city or county may still ban it.

What should a legal delivery driver check?

In California, the driver inspects your government ID in person, delivers only to a physical address and carries a copy of the retailer's licence, per the Department of Cannabis Control. A service that hands over cannabis without checking ID is not following the rules.

Can I order cannabis delivery to another state?

No. Moving cannabis across state lines is illegal under federal law, even between two states where it is legal. A service offering nationwide THC shipping is unlicensed.
