How it works

How cannabis is sold in Basel-Landschaft

Basel-Landschaft tests a different model from its urban neighbor. Instead of pharmacies, Grashaus Projects sells through specialty shops, run by Sanity Group Switzerland AG, with scientific evaluation by the Swiss Research Institute for Public Health and Addiction. The first shop opened in Allschwil in December 2023 and a second in Liestal in February 2024.

Both shops open six days a week, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and until 5 p.m. on Saturdays. The range is broad by Swiss standards: flower, vapes, oral extracts, gummies and accessories. To buy, you must be 18 or older, live in the canton, complete a self-assessment and enroll in the study. Enrollment was open in 2026, and participant data is pseudonymized.

A separate pilot for the canton of Aargau, organized with Pure Holding, is announced on the project's site. Residents of Basel-Stadt cannot use the Grashaus shops. National rules apply to everyone outside the trial: 10 grams is not punished, public use brings a CHF 100 fine, and CBD under 1% THC is legal.
